This is a dream world located in the Andean Mountains from Cusco – Peru, its name: Vinicunca. The height of the Rainbow Mountain is 5,400 metres above sea level.

A decade ago, this natural wonder remained under the glacial ice, hidden from the world, but with the climate change and the progressive thawing the locals uncovered the magic of the 7 colors of the mountain.

Today it’s one of the main tourist attractions and getting there is an amazing experience for any adventurer, well worth it!

The vibrant colors of Vinicunca are the result of millions of years of mineral sedimentation. It’s the perfect combination of iron oxides, copper sulfates and other ores

Red: Iron oxides and iron-rich clays.

Pink: Mixture of red clays and
fine-grained sands.

White: Quartz and sandstone rich in
calcium carbonate.

Green: Phyllites and magnesium
compounds, probably mixed with copper.

Yellow/Gold: Limonite and other
minerals with iron oxides.

Brown: Rock with high manganese
and magnesium content.

Blue/Purple: Mixture of calcium
carbonate and silicate compounds.

What do you need to know and pack for the trip

Layers of clothing: The weather is unpredictable, you might see sunshine, and drastically it changes to cold and windy, or it might be a snowy day, you’ll never know. So, wear layers and the unmissed gloves and a windbreaker jacket.

Trekking shoes: These are essentials if you really want to enjoy your trip without any hiccups.

Sunscreen: Regardless of the weather, the sun is always there even if it’s a snowy day, the sunlight reflects off the clouds and the ground so it’s better to protect your skin.

Water and snacks: such as dry seeds,
chocolate or energy bars to keep hydrated and
replenished.

Bring cash: Soles are needed to rent a horse for the walk or buy handcrafts.
