During the last weeks 20 native turtles of the Galapagos archipelago succeeded left the incubator after a captive breeding process. \u00a0Two of the most important organizations in the archipelago joined forces in a framework of a project of the <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.galapagos.gob.ec\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Galapagos National Park<\/a><\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galapagos.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Galapagos Conservancy<\/strong><\/a> in order to continuing preserving this unique specie of the islands.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to a statement from these institutions, it is about 20 offspring of the <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chelonoidis_hoodensis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chelonoidis hoodensis<\/a><\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chelonoidis_niger_species\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chelonoidis niger species<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, which came out of their eggs in the incubators of the <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.galapagos.gob.ec\/primeras-tortugas-del-2019-salen-de-las-incubadoras-en-galapagos\/#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fausto Llerena Breeding Center,<\/a><\/strong><\/em> of the Galapagos National Park. This fact marks the beginning of the hatching period within the breeding program in captivity of land turtles in the mentioned breeding center.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-352 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/galaxy.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/turtles-galapagos.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/galaxy.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/turtles-galapagos.jpg 900w, https:\/\/galaxy.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/turtles-galapagos-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/galaxy.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/turtles-galapagos-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/galaxy.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/turtles-galapagos-200x133.jpg 200w, https:\/\/galaxy.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/turtles-galapagos-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/galaxy.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/turtles-galapagos-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/galaxy.travel\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/turtles-galapagos-800x533.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Seven pens embrace the breeding turtles at the Spanish and Floreana islands of the archipelago, where the park rangers collected 125 eggs from 35 nests placed in the 2019 season. The nesting period began last July, with the collection of the first eggs, that began to hatch after staying 120 days in the incubators.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This breeding program is part of the <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.galapagos.org\/conservation\/our-work\/tortoise-restoration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Giant Tortoise Restoration Initiative<\/a><\/em> (GTRI)<\/strong>, which is jointly developed by the Galapagos National Park and Galapagos Conservancy.
